@Bourbon Sipper: Thanks for stopping by and for the comment. I try not too put too much ice in my glass. It depends on the weather. If it's really hot outside, I tend to use more ice. But last night was pretty chilly and I just had some straight up. I've never tried chilling my glass...I'll have to give that a try.

If you're gonna be manly, have your whiskey straight! :) A splash of water to bring the proof down a touch works well, but I think you'll really find it worthwhile to wean yourself off too much ice. Also, chilling your glass first helps.

On the rocks isn't wimpy at all, but working towards less watering down is worth the investment if you're a serious whiskey drinker.

Good catch...I guess I wasn't paying enough attention when I was typing.

"Over the rocks" probably came out naturally because I typically don't like room temperature drinks.

Every now and then I do, but I usually add some ice...call me a wimp but it helps to cut the stiffness.

You said that Scotch is "too expensive to mix with anything".

So, why do you add water or ice cubes?

My grandfather was a scotch drinker. And, believe it or not, my mom drinks scotch as well. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I really enjoy bourbon and I'm like you, I have to have a splash of water. If I don't put water in it, I'll add ice cubes - depends on the time of year.

I live in canada and i need to keep warm in the winter so the best thing would be scotch....my father in law go me drinking the stuff a few years back. But i have yet to graduate to drinking it with out a splash of water. maybe one day!
