I am extremely dissatisfied with Fresh Aire. I used it 2 months ago on old painted moldings & doors, a new wood door and a painted mantle. I lightly sanded and cleaned the surfaces before I applied the primer and paint. I was using white. The paint did not go on smoothly and it took 7 - yes 7 - coats to actually get to a somewhat acceptable white on one of the old doors. I returned the products and was reimbursed. The worst part is that now the paint is coming off where the doors meet the door jambs and items I put on the mantle are sticking. This is after 2 months of dry time.

I switched to Benjamin Moore Aura primer & paint for my remaining projects and I have had no problems. Went on smoothly, covered nicely and dried as it should.

Update here on the Freshaire paint. I didn't realize until my husband told me today that the coverage with the white Freshaire paint was not very good and he had to do three coats on multiple things that were primed and off white to begin with. The blue did a much better job of covering.

Also, we just painted a room with Mystic paint which you don't mention here. It is more difficult to find, but we are really happy with it. Its a great color (they have a big selection) and I was able to help my husband paint without problems even though I have chemical sensitivities. (Disclaimer: it might bother some people with chemical sensitivities. I'm just saying it worked for me.)

We used Freshaire paint on our daughters' room a year ago and it has held up extremely well during that time. We used the dark blue color on the wall and and white on the dresser. Our only complaint is that it is available in so few kid friendly colors.

We are now looking for a color for a family room and since Freshaire doesn't have anything vibrant that we like we are looking for another brand.

Wonderful project! I have been painting for 20 years and finally get to work on the computer side. about 6 months ago, we ran into Mythic paint. I had my crews try it and it has now become a staple for us. Its truly the best paint we have ever used since the oil paints arent available anymore. Whats great is that its a non-toxic paint too. I rest assured my workers will not be out sick ever again. This is the paint if your serious about your environment!

Hello,

I recently painted my kitched with Yolo Colorhouse, 0 VOC paint. I was looking to repaint my kitchen for sometime now, but I wanted to find not only a green paint..but a green company. After doing some research I found Yolo. They are based in Portland, OR, and take sustainably beyond the can. The cans are recycled plastic, recycled paper labels and they have large hand rolled paint samples, real paint.

I love everything about this company..they are really doing something right.

I used Fresh Aire paint to do our house when we moved a few months ago, and it has held up very well. It looks terrific, and our painter didn't have any trouble applying it. It truly didn't smell at all, and we felt very comfortable letting the baby sleep in her freshly painted room that night. (We had been prepared to bring her to Grandma's house for a few days if the paint had not been satisfactory.) I highly recommend Fresh Aire, even at its slightly higher price (compared with Behr, which is what our painter said he usually uses). We picked Winding River and Rushing Stream, a pale blue and a slightly darker blue with a bit of lavender in it. We primed first, since the previous owner had very dark green on the walls, and the walls look great!

@Jeremy: Geez...sounds like you have a full plate! I only have to paint 2 fairly small rooms. I feel for you! I'm learning that going green is more expensive than I thought but I'm going to give it my best shot.
@Jason: I hear ya! The Olympic paint has caught my eye because of the price and availability. I want to do my part and try to be earth-friendly but it can't break the bank.

Some of the "green" paints were way beyond our budget. But we did go with Olympic in our house. And the color's green too.

Sounds like we're working on similar projects Tyler. I've got to get baby Caitlin's room done by the end of day on Friday, so Lori can show it off to her family this weekend. I already redid Ty and Chani's rooms, as well as the guest bathroom, and I've got about 100 other things on my list this week. I admire you for attempting to go green. I didn't even think of it, to be honest. Glad you posted this though, as I'm sure I'll have to do more painting soon.

@Jen: I'll definitely keep you up to date. I'm really liking the Benjamin Moore paint too but I don't want to pay $60 a gallon for a "green" paint. I might lean towards the Sherwin Williams since it's close to the house and reasonably priced.

I'm interested to hear the outcome of the painting project. Curious how many coats it takes. My husband is a huge fan of Benjamin Moore paints "because of how great it covers" but unfortunately, it's not in the green category.
